Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation & State Patrol serve search warrant on Agriprocessors yesterday
The Iowa attorney general’s office had the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) along with the Iowa State Patrol serve a search warrant at the Agriprocessors Inc. plant in Postville. This Kosher processing plant was the site of a huge Immigration raid in May.
The plant has been accused of violating child-labor laws and worker-safety regulations. Earlier this month, the state Division of Labor recommended that the Iowa Attorney General’s Office file charges after 57 cases of child labor law violations at the plant were uncovered.
Apparently, no one was hauled off but they were probably searching for records. Of course, no comment from Agriprocessors.
So far, top executives and the plant’s owners have not yet faced any charges in connection with the raid or alleged child labor violations. Two lower-level supervisors recently pleaded guilty to Immigration charges and we are betting that the Feds are getting close to charging the exec’s and/or owners. 85 sentenced in Postville immigration raid
Associated Press – May 20, 2008 10:44 AM ET
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) – Federal prosecutors say 85 people arrested in last week’s immigration raid at a meatpacking plant in Postville have been sentenced on federal charges.
They are part of a group of nearly 400 people arrested at the Agriprocessors plant.
They pleaded guilty yesterday in Waterloo. The U.S. attorney’s office says it’s the largest number of defendants to plead guilty and be sentenced in one day.
Officials say 77 pleaded guilty to using false identification to obtain employment. They admitted using the ID of an actual person and were sentenced to five months in prison and face deportation.
Eight others pleaded guilty to using a false ID to obtain employment, but those documents did not belong to an actual person. They were sentenced to five years probation and ordered out of the country.

Some sluthing around found an interesting web blog, “The Problem With the Lubavitch”. It seems that the Chabad Lubavitch, a worldwide Jewish organization headquartered in Brooklyn, N.Y. owns the Postville processing plant. The Lubavitch are very quietly anti-Israel and the established Jewish-American community does not recognize them. Without going into a lot of detail, which you can read yourself, they appear to operate with questionable business practices and outright scams to increase their profits. The town of Postville has had a history of conflict around Agriprocessors, Inc, and it’s Postville facility has a history of noncompliance with state and federal regulations related to food safety, pollution and workplace safety.
