Immigration ordinance hearing set
By Kevin Cole
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER
The Nebraska Supreme Court will hear arguments Jan. 7 on the legality of Fremont’s proposed illegal immigration ordinance.
The hearing is set for 9 a.m. in the State Capitol.
Fremont is appealing a judge’s ruling that he had no legal authority to block a special election on a measure to bar the hiring of illegal immigrants and the renting of property to them.
Under the ordinance, renters would have to prove their citizenship before signing a lease.
The city contends that the ordinance would supersede federal law, including the Fair Housing Act.
The issue has divided Fremont since July 2008, when the ordinance was voted down by the City Council. Mayor Skip Edwards cast the tie-breaking vote.
Fremont residents Jerry Hart, Wanda Kotas and John Wiegert then circulated a petition calling for a special election to consider the ordinance. Petitioners gathered more than 3,300 valid signatures, enough to force a vote.
Saying such an ordinance would cost the city hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend in court, the city asked Dodge County District Judge John Samson if the city could legally approve the measure. Samson ruled that the District Court had no authority to prevent the election.
Fremont will be represented by City Attorney Dean Skokan as well as J.L. Spray and Stephen D. Mossman of Lincoln.
The petitioners are represented by Kris W. Kobach, a law professor at the University of Missouri in Kansas City.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR): Amnesty and the Economy: Myths, Lies, and Obfuscation (2009)
Recognizing that today’s economic conditions and climbing unemployment are a deterrent to any consideration of immigration amnesty legislation, amnesty advocates are trying to persuade the public and Members of Congress that an amnesty for illegal aliens would help the economy. For example, the Immigration Policy Center (IPC) recently issued a report that argues that, “Without comprehensive reform of the immigration system [read amnesty for illegal aliens], our nation cannot experience a full economic recovery.” If bold, baseless assertions such as these would win the immigration debate, the debate would be over. This argument spins a fantasyland out of partial and misleading data. Here is how they do it.

Well, it’s payback time for all the ‘LOONEY’ hispanic groups who supported Obama’s presidential election. The Lord Obama just announced Obama today at the Esperanza National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast and Conference in Kansas City that he is “committed to a comprehensive immigration overhaul that includes a way that illegal immigrants can become U.S. citizens.” Oh…yah!!…you betcha…….He also says (laughter here):
- U.S. borders must be strengthened to thwart illegal immigration
- liberal translation: “we’re not going to do a damn thing about it except talk”
- illegals must pay a fine and taxes, learn English and “go to the back of the line” of people trying to enter the United States from their home country, and
- liberal translation: “if you believe this for a moment, your a gullible idiot!…and together with the Obama press core we’ll led you to slaughter like a bunch of sheep”…
- employers should not be allowed to exploit illegal immigrants to drive down wages.
- liberal translation: “we’re not going to piss off the employers and the Chamber of Commerce” and the Mexican government who are benefiting in this scheme so “piss off” you real Americans!”

Learn how Judge Sotomayor jumped over other eligible Americans all in the name of “affirmative action” in this “Miss Affirmative Action, 2009” on” column by Pat Buchanan.
Read how: No one has brought forth the slightest evidence she has the intellectual candlepower to sit on the Roberts court. By her own admission, Sotomayor is an “affirmative action baby.”…….her academic career appears to have been a fraud from beginning to end, a testament to Ivy League corruption”….” to get up to speed on her English skills at Princeton, Sotomayor was advised to read children’s classics and study basic grammar books during her summers”…..”In video clips dating back 25 years… Sotomayor, according to the Times, even calls herself an “affirmative action product.”….”lower test scores were overlooked by admissions committees at Princeton University and Yale Law School because, she said, she is Hispanic and had grown up in poor circumstance.”…..”If we had gone through the traditional numbers route of those institutions,” says Sotomayor, “it would have been highly questionable if I would have been accepted. … My test scores were not comparable to that of my classmates.”

Unfortunately, too many of our public representatives have been corrupted by power and greed or have been pleasing the masses instead of upholding the Constitution and our Founders’ vision for America. That is why Gore Vidal once quipped, “Politics is made up of two words: ‘poli,’ which is Greek for ‘many,’ and ‘tics,’ which are bloodsucking insects.” (see full text of Chuck Norris column)

On the plus side, relaxing rules on illegal immigration failed in Arizona.
Now if Nebraskans and their gutless politicians would so the same for Nebraska!
PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — By rejecting Proposition 202, Arizonans sent a message that they will not be fooled by special interests into scrapping the state’s best instrument to fight illegal immigration. Arizona ballot initiative Prop 202 has been defeated, thus leaving in place the state’s groundbreaking worksite employment verification laws. Astute voters recognized that Prop 202, deceptively labeled as the Stop Illegal Hiring Act and aggressively promoted by business interests, would have actually increased the hiring of illegal aliens as it dismantled Arizona’s mandatory use of E-Verify.
At the beginning of 2008, Arizona chose to make E-Verify mandatory for all new hires. Managed by the DHS, E-Verify allows employers to use an automated internet-based system to check new hire’s information against more than 500 million records in Social Security and Homeland Security databases. The program is 99.5% accurate and so popular that over 1000 businesses nationwide sign up every week. The defeat of Prop 202 allows Arizona to continue to participate in the nation’s basic worksite employment verification system – a fair, practical and highly effective tool to reduce the incidence of illegal aliens entering the workforce.
“The mandatory use of E-Verify in Arizona is helping break business’s addiction to an illegal-alien, low-wage workforce,” said Dan Stein, President of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). “Their dependence on cheap labor and their fear of losing it led to desperate measures. They fraudulently told the public that Prop 202 would prevent illegal aliens from being hired when it would have done exactly the opposite. These tactics are proof that E-Verify is working as it should and giving Arizona residents the protections they deserve. Arizona voters are to be congratulated for keeping themselves informed.Dand voting responsibly.”

Uppity. Oh, the freedom to finally say it! He uppity. She uppity. They uppity.
It seems that Georgia Republican Rep. Lynn Westmoreland was quoted as saying “just from what little I’ve seen of her (Michelle Obama) and Mr. Obama, Sen. Obama, they’re a member of an elitist-class individual that thinks that they’re uppity,”
Now the political correct police (PCP) are saying that by their edict, no one can use the word “uppity” when referring to a black person. It seems that in the black culture, “uppity” is a derogatory term for blacks seeking equal treatment.
Now, we’ll have to supply all politicians with an “Ebonics” dictionary and a list of politically incorrect words to describe Obama or better yet have an “Ebonics” translator assigned to each conservative member of Congress.
This is just another double-standard of the liberal press and their ilk. Obama’s PCP jumped all over Sen. Biden after Jan. 31, 2008 when he said “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” Biden said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.” (Watch Biden’s comments, It seems that articulate, bright, clean and nice-looking is derogatory in the black culture. Anyway, Biden apologized and now these two most liberal Democrats are having a love-fest and almost “French-kissing” on stage.
The Associated Press describes Rep. Westmoreland as “a white man who was born in 1950 and raised in the segregated South” as if that’s a crime. Another crime he has committed is that “he has drawn criticism from civil rights advocates on a number of issues, including last year when he led opposition to renewing the 1965 Voting Rights Act.”
What is the greater crime here for the AP? Being a white man or having civil rights critics? As far as we are concerned, having civil right critics should be a “badge of honor”.
Uppity still describes the Obama’s’ well and Rep. Westmoreland needs not to apologize for anything. AP story
