Marijuana Seized, Suspect Sought

(Lincoln, NE)- A traffic stop on Interstate 80 just east of the South 27th Street Interchange led to the seizure of eight bales of marijuana and a search for the driver of the pickup hauling the illegal drugs.

Around 2:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 09, 2008, a trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol stopped a 2007 Dodge pickup with Iowa plates for speeding on eastbound I-80 near mm 401. The driver of the vehicle was sitting in the trooper’s patrol car, waiting for a K-9 officer to arrive, when he fled on foot

The Lincoln Police Department assisted the Nebraska State Patrol in setting up a perimeter around the area and the Nebraska State Patrol helicopter was called into assist in the search.

Approximately two-hours later the search was called off without locating the suspect. The suspect is a black male identified by his New York driver’s license as 31-year-old Patrick Golding of Bronx, New York.

An indication by a police service dog to the odor of drugs from the truck resulted in the seizure of eight bales of marijuana. The marijuana which was located in the bed of the pickup under the hard top cover had a total weight of 186.7 lbs.

The suspect who was barefoot was last seen wearing khaki shorts, and a camouflage shirt. Anyone who sees the suspect is asked to call local law enforcement. into a marshy area south of Interstate-80. The trooper gave chase and called for assistance.

Postville, Iowa: Non-skilled labor contractor pulls workers out of AgriProcessors meatpacking plant

Posted by nebraskaobserver on May 31, 2008

Labor Ready, one of America’s largest providers of temporary employment in the unskilled and construction fields pulled about 150 workers out of Agriprocessors meatpacking plant for supposedly safety concerns. We say supposedly because Labor Ready has a history of being accused of and taken to court for mistreatment and deceptive practices by employees and labor unions.

In March and April, the Iowa Division of Labor Services agreed to reduce fines against the plant for 39 violations of workplace safety rules based on inspections that took place in October 2007 and February 2008. Many of the alleged violations related to hazardous chemicals, blood-borne pathogens and what the state called “serious health violations.” According to government records, Agriprocessors Inc. has a history of noncompliance with state and federal regulations related to food safety, pollution and workplace safety at its Postville facility.

So apparently Labor Ready didn’t know they were providing workers into an unsafe facility prior to the ICE raid (if they were providing workers prior to Monday, May 12) and/or they had no knowledge of the prior safety concerns and inspections of the Iowa Division of Labor prior to placing their personnel into the plant sometime after May 12? (Wink-Wink!) So when did they know it and how much did they know? We just don’t buy it! It looks like they are trying to make a “fast exit” while they can…..DesMoines Register story

85 sentenced in Postville immigration raid
Associated Press – May 20, 2008 10:44 AM ET

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) – Federal prosecutors say 85 people arrested in last week’s immigration raid at a meatpacking plant in Postville have been sentenced on federal charges.

They are part of a group of nearly 400 people arrested at the Agriprocessors plant.

They pleaded guilty yesterday in Waterloo. The U.S. attorney’s office says it’s the largest number of defendants to plead guilty and be sentenced in one day.

Officials say 77 pleaded guilty to using false identification to obtain employment. They admitted using the ID of an actual person and were sentenced to five months in prison and face deportation.

Eight others pleaded guilty to using a false ID to obtain employment, but those documents did not belong to an actual person. They were sentenced to five years probation and ordered out of the country.

CASS COUNTY, IA: Wanted Calif. man arrested after long chase

Posted by nebraskaobserver on May 17, 2008

ATLANTIC — Jose Miguel Cisneros-Ballesteros, 26 and wanted in California, was arrested Tuesday by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office after a high-speed chase through three Iowa counties. A Cass County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a Dodge Charger with no license plates about 6:10 p.m. on Interstate 80 at the 57-mile marker. The Charger sped away. Three Iowa State Patrol troopers joined the Cass County deputy in the chase. The fleeing driver avoided spike strips set up at two locations, and the pursuit continued east on the Interstate through Adair County before ending in Dallas County just east of mile marker 110. The driver was arrested on an outstanding auto theft warrant and was being held Wednesday pending further investigation. The Iowa State Patrol, Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Stuart Police Department assisted the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Raid Could Make Postville A Ghost Town!

Posted by nebraskaobserver on May 15, 2008

Some sluthing around found an interesting web blog, “The Problem With the Lubavitch”. It seems that the Chabad Lubavitch, a worldwide Jewish organization headquartered in Brooklyn, N.Y. owns the Postville processing plant. The Lubavitch are very quietly anti-Israel and the established Jewish-American community does not recognize them. Without going into a lot of detail, which you can read yourself, they appear to operate with questionable business practices and outright scams to increase their profits. The town of Postville has had a history of conflict around Agriprocessors, Inc, and it’s Postville facility has a history of noncompliance with state and federal regulations related to food safety, pollution and workplace safety.
